Another week of sports has passed, which means it’s time to crown two more athletes as Lexington County’s male and female Athletes of the Week.

This week’s winners hail from Batesburg-Leesville and River Bluff and put up big numbers for their teams to win and improve on an already strong start to the year.

Voting for Athlete of the Week runs from 10 a.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Monday each week at lexingtonchronicle.com/athleteoftheweek. To submit a nominee for consideration email a photo and short bio to sports@lexingtonchonicle.com

K.D. Whitt

Batesburg-Leesville’s K.D. Whitt earned Athlete of the Week after helping the Panthers improve to 2-0 with a 37-35 win against Abbeville.

The junior helped the Panthers knock off the top-ranked team in 1A football by grabbing four catches for 117 yards and three touchdowns. It was Batesburg-Leesville’s first win over Abbeville in 10 years.

Whitt and the Panthers are off to a good start this season and will look to continue building momentum with their first home game of the year against Lower Richland.

Alexis Jodie

River Bluff’s volleyball star Alexis Jodie helped the Gators win one of their two contests last week.

The Gators went on the road and defeated Summerville two sets to one in game one of a tri-match. Jodie played a big factor in that outcome, finishing the match with 30 assists, 15 digs, three kills, two aces and a block.

Jodie had another strong performance against Wando in the second game of the tri-match, scoring 24 assists, 13 digs and five kills, but River Bluff fell two sets to one.

The Gators are 14-4 entering this week and will be back in action with a road match at Lakeside and a tournament in Dorman.
