AROUND CAYCE, SPRINGDALE & WEST COLUMBIA

The Leadership Lexington County Class of 2019 toured West Columbia’s newest park projects – the Interactive Art Park on Meeting Street and the Enabling Park, near the Riverwalk. A tour was also given of the area where the Savage Craft Ale Works will locate – the old City Hall on Center Street, West Columbia.

At West Columbia City Hall, the leadership class heard from Public Works Director Jamie Hook, Town of Batesburg-Leesville Assistant Administrator Seth Duncan, City of Cayce Administrator Tracy Hegler, and Town of Chapin Director of Finance Laura Culler and learned about the interworkings of municipal government.

In the last week, the West Columbia Fire Department has been able to make good use of an empty building on Meeting Street. The WCFD has been conducting fire suppression operations and search and rescue training evaluations in the multi-unit commercial structure. If you’ve seen the fire trucks over there, with firefighters on top, that’s what is going on.

At the June West

Columbia City Council meeting, Mayor Bobby Horton, Mayor pro tem Tem Miles, and the City Council recognized the Rev. Kenneth Taylor for his service to the city. Taylor also received a resolution.

Also recognized at the meeting was the West Columbia Beautification Foundation for its valuable contributions to the city. Foundation members also received a resolution from the city.

The mayor and West Columbia City Council also recognized the East Point Academy Archery Teams for their accomplishments in competition. They received a resolution and council recognized Anne Mc-Quary with a resolution for her Southeast Regional Emmy Nomination.
