All hands on deck

Lexington County voters face 46 differing Nov. 6 election ballots.

No matter where you live in the county, you and your neighbors will be choosing between candidates and issues that will be different from other voters’ ballots in other communities.

But wherever you live in the county, you will find two Wilsons on your ballot.

Republican Congressman Joe Wilson of Springdale is seeking re-election as is his son, Attorney General Alan Wilson of Lexington.

The Congressman faces a challenge from:

• Democrat Sean Carrigan of Chapin, a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.

• American Party candidate Sonny Narang, a West Columbia businessman and B-C High graduate.

The Attorney General faces a challenge from Democrat Constance Anastopoulo who was voted “Best Professor” by Charleston School of Law students.

Another county resident in the ballot for statewide office is SC Treasurer Curtis Loftis, a West Columbia businessman.

Also seeking re-election is former county House delegation member Molly Spearman. She is seeking another term as SC Superintendent of Education.

On the ballot is a constitutional issue to change her job from elected superintendent to one nominated by the governor and approved by the SC Senate.

The 1st of a 3-part series on the crowded ballot appears today on Page A3.
