Dutch Fork duo delivers dominantly, earns Athlete of the Week

Posted

Last week was a big one in Lexington County.

The final fall sports championships were played, with the SCHSL football championships wrapping up.  At the same time, the winter sports season was in full swing as every basketball team in Lexington County took the court.

With so much action, there were plenty of options for this week’s male and female Athlete of the Week winners. After it was all said and done, this week’s winners both represent Dutch Fork High School and made big plays in crucial wins.

Voting for Athlete of the Week runs from 10 a.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Monday each week at lexingtonchronicle.com/athleteoftheweek. To submit a nominee for consideration, email a photo and short bio to sports@lexingtonchronicle.com.

Julian Walker

Dutch Fork defensive linemen Julian Walker just concluded one of the biggest weeks in his football career.

Walker helped the Silver Foxes win the 5A Division I state championship after a 40-20 victory over Summerville. He scored his first career touchdown with a scoop-and-score in the fourth quarter and finished with 3.5 sacks.

Just a few days before, Walker officially signed to play college football at the University of South Carolina. He was verbally committed to Michigan but flipped his decision to stay close to home and play for Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks.

Walker is a consensus top-100 player in the country and ended his high school football career on top.

Trinity Crumlin

Silver Foxes girls basketball star Trinity Crumlin has helped her team get off to a 5-0 start this season.

Dutch Fork played and won all three of its games last week, thanks in part to Crumlin’s contributions. Those include a 15-point, 18-rebound game against Spring Valley, and an 18-point, 21-rebound game against A.C. Flora.

The junior recorded a double-double in four of Dutch Fork’s first five games this season. Her rebounding numbers have been off the charts, averaging over 14 per game.

As the Silver Foxes continue their slate of non-region games, the team will look for Crumlin to maintain her high scoring and rebounding output.
