Dutch Fork, River Bluff stars shine in postseason to claim Athlete of the Week

Posted

Only the best of the best are left standing on the fields, as there are only a few teams left competing in the fall sports postseason.

Most of the teams in Lexington County have concluded their seasons, but those that are still playing are leaning on their brightest stars to carry them to victory. This week’s Athlete of the Week winners saved some of their best performances for the playoffs and excelled against their opponents.

Voting for Athlete of the Week runs from 10 a.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Monday each week at lexingtonchronicle.com/athleteoftheweek. To submit a nominee for consideration, email a photo and short bio to sports@lexingtonchronicle.com.

Jaxon Knotts

Dutch Fork quarterback Jaxon Knotts had a big game in the Silver Foxes’ playoff opener.

Knotts completed over 75% of his passes and threw for 311 yards and three touchdowns in a 42-7 win over Boiling Springs. He also scored a rushing touchdown.

The junior has had a strong first season as the leading man under center. He’s thrown for over 100 yards in every game this season and set a new career high against the Bulldogs.

Knotts is trying to become the next Dutch Fork quarterback to lead the Silver Foxes to a state championship. As the head coach’s son, there can be a lot of pressure to succeed. So far, Knotts has dealt with it, no problem.

Savannah Davis

River Bluff senior Savannah Davis had a strong performance at the 5A Division I cross country championships.

Davis was the highest-placing Lexington County girl at the state championship meet this past weekend. The senior has had a great year, leading her team to success with consistent high placements at competition.

At the championships, Davis came in seventh place. It was another impressive placement to add to an already impressive list this season.

Earlier this season, she finished first at the Lexington County championships and the region title meet.
