AROUND LEXINGTON COUNTY

Are you aready to head back? Lexington /county District One schools open August 21. After a somewhat short, hot, stormy summer, it’s that time again.

Families had the benefit of Tax Free Weekend Aug. 3-5 to purchase needed school supplies. Many grabbed the chance to purchase laptops, book bags, footwear, and clothing. College-bound students were able to puchase dorm essentials.

Our local Icehouse Amphitheater has events for you. On Aug. 17 is the movie Coco, Aug. 24 is the movie, The Darkest Hour, and Sept. 2 brings an outdoor baptism service. The popular bands, the Fantastic Shakers, perform Sept. 6 and the Men of Distinction on Sept. 13.

Take stroll on Main Street in downtown Lexington and visit one of the many new restaurants. Even pizza is coming soon in the former Needler building.

A lovely reception was held Aug. 5 honoring the Rev. Patti Sue Burton-Pye on the 10th anniversary of ordained ministry and service to Providence Lutheran Church. A large contingent of her family members attended, as well as church members and friends.

Patti Sue formerly served as chair of LICS, now Mission Lexington. Robin Bowers, executive director; Ronald Redd, a volunter; and supporters and board members all came out to congratulate her.

Ladies of the church provided a delicious buffet of sandwiches, spreads and desserts for the occasion.

Much appreciation and gratitude was expressed to Pattie Sue for her years of service.

While the hot summer days linger, the Lexington Police Department would like to remind everyne of their Fan Program. If you live in the town and are in need of a fan, please call the police department, 359-6260.

If you would like to donate a new boxed fan, you may drop it off at the police department, 111 Maiden Lane, Lexington.

Don’t forget your local Farmers Market, 9 a.m. to noon, at Lexington Square Park. There are plenty of local vegetables and fruits available.

Happy birthday to Priscilla Brabham, Carl Butler, Luci Davis, Robert Maloney, Adam Riddick, Alfred Turner, Allison Jeff-coat, Sarah Stafford, Robert Madsen, Kyle Adams, Griffin Hiers, Charlotte Maloney, Carolyn Brooks, Inez Solard, William Dock, Hazek Moore, Stephanie Reagan, Elizabeth Herring, Sarah Derrick, Sammy Hendrix, Verona Shealy, The Rev.
