A West Columbia family of 5 escaped injury in a shooting at their home.

11th Circuit Solicitor Rick Hubbard reported that Damerio Milek Jones, 19, pled guilty to firing into a home, conspiracy and possessing a stolen pistol and was given 15 years.

On Feb. 3, 2020, Jones, and a juvenile accomplice, fired 23 bullets into a Hammond Avenue home in West Columbia just before 4 am.

A family with 3 children were asleep in the home.

The investigation revealed multiple bullets travelled through the home and 1 flew over the parents’ bed.

A witness and 1 of the victims identified the vehicle used during the shooting.

Officers found a juvenile accomplice and a handgun.

The juvenile admitted his involvement and implicated Jones as the shooter.

Gunshot residue was detected on the juvenile’s hands and on the clothes Jones was wearing.

The juvenile pled guilty and received a youthful offender sentence.

Child sex offender gets 12 years

Serial sex offender Milton Whaley Mahaffey, 47, was sentenced to 12 years in prison last week.

He pled guilty to criminal sexual conduct with a minor in the 3rd degree and unlawful conduct to a child.

According to 11th Circuit Solicitor Rick Hubbard, Lexington County Sheriff’s Deputies had responded to a 911 call of Mahaffey assaulting a minor May 12, 2018.

Witnesses said they saw Mahaffey assault the minor.

The victim told deputies about years of Mahaffey’s sexual assaults.

2 other minor children said Mahaffey had sexually assaulted them as well.

In addition to 12 years in prison, Mahaffey will be placed on the sex offender registry and the registry of child abuse and neglect.

Hubbard also reported that Colby Alfred Henke, 38, was sentenced to 8 years.

He pled guilty to assaulting a police officer while resisting arrest and threatening a probation official.

A SC Department of Probation, Pardon, and Parole agent came to a Lexington County home for a visit with a parolee May 1, 2020.

Henke repeatedly threatened to shoot the agent in the face and beat him.

Despite attempts to defuse the situation, Henke charged the agent who called for emergency backup.

After Lexington County Sheriff’s deputies arrived, Henke was combative and ignored all commands.

He kicked and attempted to bite a deputy.

Deputies placed him in a violent prisoner restraint and drove him to jail.

At the jail, Henke threatened to kill a deputy.

Henke has numerous prior criminal convictions.
