Football, volleyball stars lead teams to victory and earn Athlete of the Week

Posted

The fall sports season is nearing an end in Lexington County, which means teams from around the state are fighting even harder to better their positioning for the postseason.

This round of Athlete of the Week winners helped their team better its playoff resume with big performances in crucial region wins.

Voting for Athlete of the Week runs from 10 a.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Monday each week at lexingtonchronicle.com/athleteoftheweek. To submit a nominee for consideration email a photo and short bio to sports@lexingtonchonicle.com

Teysean Charley

Swansea’s Teysean Charley earned Athlete of the Week after having a huge outing for the Tigers in their win against Fox Creek. He led the team with over 200 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

Charley has been a big part of Swansea’s sudden turnaround this season. Charley takes a share of the lead back duties in a run-heavy Swansea offense. The Tigers are now 7-2 this season after a winless 2023.

The senior has had many big performances for the Tigers this year. The team will hope for Charley to continue his exciting play as they fight to contend for the region championship and positive postseason seeding.

Caroline Tucker

River Bluff volleyball star Caroline Tucker had a strong performance to lift the Gators over Dutch Fork in their regular season finale.

Tucker recorded 16 kills, 12 digs and four aces against the Silver Foxes, leading her team in all three categories. The win improved River Bluff’s region record to 8-2 with its only losses coming to unbeaten Lexington.

The Gators have relied on Tucker’s contributions many times this season. She has seven games with at least 10 kills and four with at least 10 digs. With River Bluff set to begin postseason action, Tucker will need to play at her best to put the Gators in the best position to win.
