What’s in a name? The name we are honoring this week is that of former County Councilman Bobby Keisler.

A dinner catered by Hudson’s Smokehouse was held last week at the Keislers’ pond and shelter.

Family members present were Bobby’s wife Rachel, children Donna (Ashley), Jody and Ronda (Dave), grandchildren Brandon, Zach, Cameron, Brooklyn (aka “Mary Bell”) and Hannah (aka “Tinkerbell”).

Mistress of Ceremonies was Rep. Paula Rawl Calhoon who was there with her husband, former solicitor Donnie Myers.

She said: “We celebrate a devoted husband, a beloved father and grandfather, a cherished friend, a professional colleague and a true public servant.

County Coroner Margaret Fisher said, “Bobby is the embodiment of service.”

Sen. Katrina Shealy wrote: “Under his leadership, Lexington County attained its first ever AAA bond rating, a true testament to his steady-handed stewardship.

Donna and Bob Peeler wrote: “He has been a touchstone for what is right and to do it with a gentle and earnest spirit.

Gov. Henry McMaster wrote it was his pleasure to award Bobby the Order of the Palmetto, the state’s highest civilian honor for extraordinary lifetime service.

Among those present were Congressman Joe Wilson, Butch Wallace, Rep. RJ May, Sheriff Jay Koon, Council members Debbie Summers, Darrell Hudson, Larry Brigham, Beth Carrigg, Todd Cullum, Glen Conwell and Gene “Bimbo” Jones, Water Commissioners, Mayors Lancer Shull, Steve Mac-Dougall, Michael Bishop Frank Shumpert, Troy Bivens and Joey Hardee.

Have you ever wondered how a business was named? For instance, new ladies boutique, Tulip, is named for the favorite flower of owner Suzy’s mother. Blush Gifts carries out owner Stephanie’s favorite color. Kitty’s Hallmark was named by the late-Frank Morgan for his beloved wife, Kitty.

Craig Reagin Clothiers was named for owner’s family. Craig was Teresa Addy’s maiden name and Reagin was the maiden name of Frances Addy.

Have you noticed the black Lab’s picture at Libby’s restaurant? That’s Libby. Owner Clint LaCoe claimed Libby as a puppy from a litter where she was discarded by her mother. She went everywhere with Clint, even classes at College of Charleston.

Lizard’s Thicket was named for a western Alabama restaurant. Bobby Williams’s father liked the funny name.

Four Oaks Farm Country Store got its name from the 4 large oak trees growing in the front yard of the Mathias family home for nearly 85 years.

Anne Bull reports: Tokyo Joe, a local rock band, was a huge hit at the Icehouse Amphitheater last Thursday. This was the final free concert of the Lexington Live Series. Attending were Leigh and Russell Eubanks, Brenda and Mack Maxwell, Brenda Nichols and Dawn Strawbridge.
