Have you folllowed your dream?

A celebrity Lexington resident has followed his dream. He is Greg Adams, artist and inker.

How many of you enjoyed reading popular comic books when we were younger? They foster a young person’s imagination. We can thank Greg for providing this world of entertainment.

Greg was born in Houston, TX. He’s lived in TX, AL, MI, GA and SC. He went to Irmo High and USC. Eventually he ended up back in TX where he worked in the oil fields, managed a K-Mart Sporting Goods & Automotive store and sold custom windows and building supplies.

Greg fell in love with comic books as a boy spending his summers in East Texas with his grandparents. He has remained a comic book fan his entire life.

His favorite comic book is the Avengers. His favorite character is Captain America.

After moving back to SC in 2009 he decided to follow his dream of working in the comic industry. In 1991 he started submitting portfolio work to editors at Marvel and DC Comics. After numerous rejections, he changed one word in his submission. Instead of looking “for” work, he said he was looking for “more” work.

Marvel Comics asked him to complete a rush job – 5 pages over the weekend for a book called Nomad. That landed him a monthly book, Nomad, followed by a 2nd monthly book, Deathlock. He did 2 books a month for the next 6 1/2 years.

During this time he worked on custom comics through Marvel like a Round Spider-Man comic for the lid of Peter Pan Peanut Butter, 2 comics for Pizza Hut, Spider-Man stories on the back of Fruit Roll-Ups and an opening day comic book for the Florida Marlins vs Atlanta Braves game.

He’s a Disney approved artist for Hallmark and has done Disney calendars and Tigger birthday items. Greg has 27 years with Marvel, DC Comics, Acclaim, Dark Horse Comics and Hallmark.

After 18 years in Columbia Greg and Marianne, his loving and supportive wife of 29 years, moved to Lexington. Most of their friends now live in Lexington. They love what Lexington has to offer.

Greg successfully battled his fight with head and neck cancer in 2018/19. After a grueling battle with radiation and chemotherapy (and not eating for 185 days) he has gone into full remission. He credits his faith in God and love from his support system. After retiring, Greg taught himself 3D rendering. His work can be found on his Etsy site. Greg is also coming out of retirement soon.
