Independence Day fun kicks off this weekend in Lexington

Posted

The Fourth of July holiday falls on a Thursday this year, and while there will certainly be plenty of celebrations around the Midlands on that day, some popular spots around Lexington County have chosen to throw their Independence Day parties a little early.

Here’s a breakdown of some of the Independence Day-related events around town over the next couple of weeks. These events are outdoors, for the most part, so plan your wardrobe for hot weather and bring along some lawn chairs when allowed. And enjoy celebrating the day that America was truly born.

Independence Day Celebration, Icehouse Amphitheater

The Town of Lexington gets things started at the Icehouse Amphitheater on Main Street this Friday night. The event, presented by Denise Thomas State Farm, begins at 7 p.m. with a concert provided by the 246th Army Band followed by a spectacular fireworks show around 9:20 p.m. You can tune into The Lake at 93.1FM to listen to patriotic music during the fireworks show. Best viewing areas include the Icehouse Amphitheater, Main Steet restaurants, Lexington Square Park, the Lexington Veterans Monument, as well as public parking lots in the downtown area. The circle and grass parking lots located along South Church Street will be closed all day. This event is free and open to the public and will also include vendors on site with food and drink available for purchase.

Independence Day Celebration, Big Oak Farms Boutique

The Big Oak Farms Boutique on Augusta Highway invites you to their one-of-a-kind celebration this Friday. Combine hip and old school styles at the trucker hat bar, get yourself some permanent jewelry and more at this pop-up event, which runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There might not be fireworks, but there will certainly be fun.

36th Annual Fourth of July Celebration, Lake Murray

Lake Murray rings in Independence Day this Saturday with the 36th Annual Fourth of July Celebration, presented by Lexington Medical Center. The highlight of the celebration will be on of S.C.’s biggest fireworks shows, starting around 9:30 p.m. Fireworks will be launched from two locations on the lake: Spence Island and Dreher Island, creating a breathtaking display visible from multiple vantage points. The fireworks will be synchronized with patriotic music broadcast on 93.1 The Lake. Public viewing is available at Lake Murray Public Park sites at the Dam and Dreher Island State Park.

Ft. Jackson Independence Day Celebration, Ft. Jackson

The Ft. Jackson Independence Day event on July 4, lets you celebrate our freedom with the people who defend it. This free event doesn’t just include a dazzling fireworks display; there are carnival rides for the family, food trucks, misting stations and live music (including headliners The Reggie Sullivan Band). This event is free to attend and family friendly.

Lexington Peach Festival, Gilbert Community Park

Celebrate the Fourth of July on the actual holiday in a unique way at the Lexington Peach Festival at Gilbert Community Park. Festivities will celebrate the community, Independence Day and of course the queen of all fruits, the peach. Enjoy live entertainment (including fast-rising country singer/songwriter Carter Lybrand), fresh peach treats, arts and crafts, the peach parade, fireworks, beauty pageants and much more. This event is free to attend.
