Lexington County athletes medal at state meet

Airport’s Jayla Jamison closed out her prep career with another 4 goldmedal performance at the SC High School League Track and Field Championships.

The University of South Carolina signee won the 100, 200 and 400 meters and long jump in Class 4A held at Spring Valley High School. She shed her high school career with 12 state championship medals.

Lexington’s Ajan Davenport also placed 1st at Harry Parone Stadium, winning the Class 5A pole vault.

Over at Lower Richland High School, Brookland-Cayce’s Ian Myers took 1st place in the 200 meters. He also placed 3rd in the 100 meters and the Bearcats placed 4th in the 4x100 meter relay.

In Class 2A girls, Yessina Castellenos was 1st in the 800 meters. It was enough to lift the Lady Panthers to a 10th place finish in their classification.

Batesburg-Leesville’s Damazhay Long and White Knoll’s Kaniya Johnson were multiple winners in both the 100 and 200 meters. Long was victorious at Lower Richland High School, while Johnson repeated as champion in those events at Spring Valley High School.

In the team standings, the River Bluff boys recorded the highest finish in 3rd place in Class 5A with Lexington 9th.

The Chapin girls’ team finished in 6th place in Class 5A.
