Lexington’s mayor pro-tem honored for 25 years of service

A member of Lexington Town Council was honored for 25 years of service.

Mayor Pro-Tem Hazel Livingston received the recognition at the body’s regular May 1 meeting, honored with a resolution from the state House of Representatives delivered by local state Reps. Chris Wooten and Paula Calhon.

The mayor and council presented Livingston with a print of a daylily, which has been the town flower since it was adopted in 1985.

“This represents the many hours she personally spent planting flowers in the town for everyone to enjoy, including future generations,” said Mayor Steve MacDougall. “[Without] the many selfless hours, contributions and ideas that you have shared over the past 25 years in order to maintain and improve the beauty of our great town, the town of Lexington would not look the way it does today. “

According to the town’s website. Livingston has played a major role in the beautification of the town. She has led the redevelopment of several parks and formed the committee to shape the design for the ongoing renovation of Virginia Hylton Park.

She also helped form the Lexington Beautification Foundation, which is responsible for the town’s annual Wine Walk, with proceeds going toward beautification projects.

Livingston told the Chronicle that being honored was a humbling experience. When asked why the town is important to her, she said she wants to leave a legacy for her 10 grandchildren, including green space and a community atmosphere.

“I couldn't have done this without all of y'all” Livingston said to her fellow council members. “And I definitely couldn't have done this without the citizens.”
