Twin City News goes online only

It was a tough decision, editor Tony Baughman said.

In a heartfelt video on the Twin City News website he said:

1. Due to lack of advertising, the paper is going digital only.

2. The staff will continue to aggressively cover local news.

3. The public will have full access without a paywall.

He said Publisher Trey Bruner decided the print edition of the 90-year-old Batesburg-Leesville newspaper will rest until the covid-19 pandemic ends.

Baughman said he is adding a podcast to let readers know the latest news.

Tele-health for your pet

You may now be able to receive pet care from home.

Cherokee Trail Veterinary Hospital is now offering remote healthcare services to current patients.

The TeleVet mobile app allows you to send virtual consultation requests whenever your pet is sick or injured.

Download the TeleVet app on the iTunes or Google Play store, and create your personal profile.

Create a consultation request detailing your pet’s issue. Upload any pictures or videos, instant message, and talk with face to face through a video conference call to help get your pet feeling better again.

Governor calls for self quarantine

Gov. Henry McMaster is concerned that out-of-state visitors may be contagious.

Thousands have left New York and other northeastern areas due to the heavy contagion there.

To date, more than 18,000 people in the tri-state area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut – most of them in New York City – have tested positive for the potentially deadly virus.

McMaster requested that all out-of-state visitors self-quarantine for 2 weeks immediately on arrival.

That applies only to visitors planning a stay for 2 or more nights.

How this could be monitored is unclear.

Must dial area code

Starting Apr. 25, customers with an 803 area code must enter the area code for all calls.

This is because of the addition of another area code to the same geographic area as the existing 803 area code.

The 839 area code is being added to the area served by the 803 area code to ensure a continuing supply of phone numbers.

Callers will have to dial the area code and the 7-digit number for all calls, including calls within the same area code.

You won’t have to change your existing area code or phone number.

CVS now owns all Longs Drugs

CVS has acquired all Longs Drug stores in the Midlands.

Longs abruptly closed their stores Mar. 24. without notice to customers.

A statement posted on Facebook announced anyone with prescriptions from Longs could pick them up at the local CVS.

Many employees of the retail pharmacy operations were laid off.

CVS will be offering opportunities for employment many of Longs’ employees.

The Long’s Specialty long term care and the pharmacies serving health clinics will remain open.
