Museum plans gala, murder mystery tour

Posted

The Lexington County Museum plans several exciting events in early 2020.

The 1st is another of the museum’s free “Murders and Mysteries” walking tours of Lexington.

It will start Saturday, Feb. 8, at 8 pm at the downtown Icehouse Amphitheater and last about an hour.

This is a great way to learn about Lexington history and its historic buildings while hearing interesting stories about murders, trials, and other crimes that occurred on Main Street in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Due to the mature subject, you must be 18 or over or have parental permission.

No reservations needed.

The 2nd event is the Friends of the Lexington County Museum’s annual fundraiser gala Saturday Feb. 22, at 6 pm at the Lexington Municipal Complex 111 Maiden Lane.

This year’s fundraiser will focus on the 50th anniversary of the creation of the Lexington County Museum.

The museum opened in 1970 with a single historic structure and has grown to 6.5 acres and 30 buildings.

Gala attendees will have dinner and drinks and dance to the music provided by the Great Society Band.

Funds raised will go to repaint the circa 1832 John Fox House at the museum.

The Fox House was the museum’s 1st building and the only building in the museum complex that is in its original location.

For information about any of the museum’s upcoming events, call the museum at 803-359-8369 or email us at museum@lex-co.com .

J.R. Fennell is director of the Lexington County Museum.
