Man arrested on child porn charge

Vince Randall Newton, 35,  of West Columbia has been arrested on a  charge connected to the sexual exploitation of a minor.

Investigators received a CyberTipline report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children which led them to Newton.

Investigators state Newton distributed child pornography.

Newton was arrested August 12. He is charged with 1  count of sexual exploitation of a minor, 2nd degree, a felony offense punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment.

The case will be prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office.

Cayce fire charged as attempted murder

A suspect has been charged with attempted murder in a Cayce arson case.

The Cayce Department of Public Safety responded early Tuesday morning to a call of a house fire on Lexington Avenue in Cayce.

Upon arrival, officers found the back part of the home engulfed in flames and a female victim that was severely burned. She is being treated at an area hospital.

Cayce Public Safety officers located the suspect and he is being treated for burns at an area hospital. He will be charged with attempted murder, arson and other related charges.

Bank robbery gun stolen from Lexington County

A pistol used by 1 suspected bank robber who fired on Richland County deputies last Thursday was stolen in Lexington County.

Sheriff Leon Lott said last Friday the Taurus pistol was stolen in Lexington County and the homeowner shot.

Police pursued 3 suspects in a high-speed chase and officer-involved shooting in northeast Columbia.

The suspects are accused of running people off the road in an attempt to escape then shooting at deputies when they bailed out of a suspected stolen vehicle.

The bank robbery happened at the AllSouth Federal Credit Union off Killian Road, police said.

Devanta Boyd, Daniel Williams and Devin Mincey face multiple murder and other charges.

County businessman caught without license

South Carolina Department of Revenue agents arrested a Lexington County man on charges of operating a retail business without a license.

Keith Anthony Miller, 52, of Leesville, operator of Miller Mower and Small Engine Repair, is charged with one count of operating a retail business without a license.

SCDOR revoked Miller’s retail business license July 3, 2018 due to unpaid business taxes, according to his arrest warrant.

Miller was advised by the SCDOR to close his business and cease sales, according to the warrant. However, Miller continued to make sales without a valid license.

If convicted, Miller faces a maximum sentence of a $200 fine or 30 days in jail, or both.

He is being held in the Lexington County Detention Center pending a bond hearing.

Local businessman charged with fraud

Lexington business owner Elbert C. “Kit” Boan has been charged with defrauding his customers.

Boan owned SunTek Energy also known as STEP Energy (SunTek Energy Pros) at 5150 Sunset Boulevard.

Authorities said he admitted he did not do or complete contracted work for customers in Aiken, Bamberg, Chester, Lancaster and Richland Counties.

He faces trial for breach of trust with fraudulent intent for more than $10,000.
