Our grinch gets sentimental

My sister and I grew up with a pretty strict father. Raising 2 girls as a single dad, I can understand why he was always stressed out. We probably didn’t make it easy on him, either. Dad was always rather reserved and serious, even around the holidays. But since my sister Dawn and I have grown up and started our own families, Dad has softened. A couple Christmases ago, Dad gave us something unforgettable. It wasn’t a new car or a trip to Cancun. It was better. Dad filled 2 huge gift bags with nostalgia. He had remembered all the cereals, snacks and treats we used to like when we were growing up. Things even I had forgotten about. Seeing those childhood treats brought back a flood of good memories. The best part was knowing Dad remembered them, too. It was simple and heartfelt and remains one of my favorite Christmas memories.
