The winter sports season is beginning to wind down with region season heating up. There are only a couple of weeks left for teams to make a postseason push, and they will rely on their biggest stars to take them there.

This week’s Athlete of the Week winners put together strong performances to help their teams win a region win and stay in contention for the region title.

Voting for Athlete of the Week runs from 10 a.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Monday each week at lexingtonchronicle.com/athleteoftheweek. To submit a nominee for consideration, email a photo and short bio to sports@lexingtonchonicle.com.

Zyan Davis

Pelion’s Zyan Davis helped the Panthers begin region competition with a win after scoring 19 points against Ninety Six.

Davis did more than just score in the win, adding seven rebounds, six assists and two steals. His play has been crucial to the Panthers’ success this season. His 19-point performance against Ninety Six set a new season-high, topping his 14-point performance against Swansea earlier this season.

Pelion lost its next game to Ninety Six but is still tied for second in the region, sitting at 1-1. Davis’ performance in the future will be critical for the Panthers if they want to make a push for the region championship.

Chaelyn Tifre

Northside Christian is having an excellent season, entering this week 16-0. The team is off to a 2-0 start in region play thanks in part to an explosive performance from Chaelyn Tifre.

Tifre helped lead the Crusaders to a win over Ben Lippen last week, leading the team in scoring and rebounding. The junior had one of her best performances this season, recording 20 points and 20 rebounds.

It was Tifre’s first 20-20 game this season and eighth double-double. Her effort has been a huge reason for Northside’s success.
