Quilts of Valor Presented

Pelion Police Chief John Rebolj was presented a quilt of valor at the opening ceremony of the city’s Peanut Party on Nov. 12. The quilt was presented by David Mills and Hawk Betts. David Mills, District 20 commander for the American Legion, also presented a quilt of valor to Winfield Bailey at the Pelion Senior Center. Thanksgiving Service will be held on Nov. 21 at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church at 6 pm. Everyone is invited.

The American Legion Pelion Post 101 will host Breakfast with Santa on Dec. 18 from 8 to 11 a.m. Presale tickets are available for $5 at the Pelion Senior Center. All proceeds go to the Children and Youth Fund for veterans wounded or killed in action. Donations are also accepted — make out to American Legion Post 101, PO Box 373, Pelion, SC 29123.

The Pelion Library will host an adult program on Nov. 18 at 6 p.m. Participants will make DIY steampunk nerf guns. Paint and supplies will be available to make a simple steampunk revolver. Nerf guns will be made available or participants can bring their own.

Winners of the Pelion Peanut Promenade Poker Run were Zoe Mills (first place, $100) Kay Collings (second place, $50) and Carolyn Pearson (third place, $50).

The American Legion monthly meeting on Nov. 23 will include a Thanksgiving meal and fellowship. If you know a veteran who needs help, you are encouraged to let the Pelion Post know. You can go to their Facebook page or email dfmills61@gmail.com.

A reminder that the Pelion playground, located at the walking trail, is a no smoking area. Please be respectful of the children and the playground and smoke elsewhere.

On Nov. 11, Representative Ryan McCabe had the honor to swear in Frank Shumpert as mayor and Larry Sossoman as a Town Councilman on Nov. 11. Sossoman was elected by the council as Mayor Pro Tem.
