RECOGNITION

This past winter saw two Chronicle Country schools which field the sport of archery enjoy success. Both River Bluff and Gilbert High Schools competed at various events and came away with individual and team awards.

The River Bluff archery team, under the leadership of Brandi Kirkbride, claimed first place overall in the bullseye competition at the Myrtle Beach NASP Bullseye and IBO-3D regional championship. Not pictured is Megan Thomas. The Gilbert High School Archery program started 5 years ago. Under head coach Ricky Ward, the middle and high school teams have a combined 40 participants who have competed in 9 tournaments this year. The high school teams have 6 1st place finishes and placed 2nd 3 times, while the middle school team has 1 1st and 2nd place finishes and 3 3rd place finishes. They will compete in the regional tournament this Friday at the S.C. State fairgrounds. The High School Archers are Jace Alton, Raleigh Anderson, Kyra Barnes, Staci Bedenbaugh, Madison Brown, Alexis Clark, Cole Decker, Braden Dubois, Haley Gunter, Gracie Howard, Grace Lahrman, Colby Leaphart, Chase Learnard, Abby Kate Mervine, Samantha Monts, Sophie Ngo, Haylie Taylor, Alanna Ward and John Ponder. The Middle School Archers are Troy Buck, Bryson Cook, Marcus Cook, Cassidy Craps, Sonny Devore, Sydney Duke, Justin Elrod, Brisa Greene, Kayla Hall, Brysen Hallman, Mackenzie Head, Blythe Hicks, John Howard, Hailiegh Makuta, Connor Muskopf, Dorian Parriott, Braelyn Peake, Lily Price, Starlynn Robertson and Justin Sharpe.
