Schools to feed kids free lunch, breakfast

Lexington County school districts are offering a free food program for children during the closings.

The programs run 11 am-1 pm Monday to Friday.

Parents can drive to student drop-off areas of school food sites for bag lunches and the next day’s breakfast. The children must be in the vehicle at pick up.

District 1 in Lexington, Gilbert and Pelion locations:

• Carolina Springs Middle, 6180 Platt Springs Rd.

• Forts Pond Elementary, 7350 Fish Hatchery Rd.

• Gilbert Primary, 520 Main St., Gilbert

• Oak Grove Elementary, 479 Oak Drive

• Red Bank Elementary, 246 Community Drive

• Rosenwald Community Learning Center, 420 Hendrix Street, Lexington

• White Knoll Elementary, 132 White Knoll Way, West Columbia

The district hopes to get food out to other areas.

District 2 in Cayce-West Columbia will serve free breakfast and lunch at:

• Airport High: 1315 Boston Ave, Springdale.

• Cayce Elementary: 515 Bulldog Blvd.

• Riverbank Elementary, 160 Cougar Drive, West Col.

• Wood Elementary, 737 Pine Ridge Drive. West Col.

Turner AME Church, 1122 Monticello Rd., offers lunch and snacks from noon-1 pm, Monday to Friday.

Breakfast and lunch pickup at the following schools in their front offices:

District 3 in Batesburg-Leesville has a bus with bagged meals make stops each weekday:

• 11 - 11:30 am - Mr. B’s Convenience Store near Leesville Gardens, 402 East Columbia Ave., Leesville

• 11:45 am - 12:15 pm - Empty parking lot behind McDonald’s, 212 West Columbia Avenue, Batesburg

• 12:30 pm - 1:15 pm - Old Hardee’s, 502 West Columbia Avenue, BatesburgDistrict 4 in Gaston and Swansea offers breakfast 7:30-9 am and lunch 11 am-12:30 pm at:

•Lexington 4 Early Childhood Center, 135 Lewis Rast Road, Swansea

• Frances Mack School, 161 Gaston St., Gaston

• Swansea High Freshman Academy, 1195 State Road S-32-248, Swansea

District 5 in Chapin, Ballentine and Irmo hours are 11:30 am - 1 pm at:

• Corley Elementary, 1500 Chadford Road, Irmo

• Harbison West Elementary, 257 Crossbow Dr, Irmo

• 7 Oaks Elementary, 2800 Ashland Road

• Irmo High, 6671 St. Andrews Road, Columbia

• Dutch Fork High, 1400 Old Tamah Road, Irmo

Free food will be provided at Irmo Village Apartments and River Oaks Apartments.
