Self-defense ruled in Lexington shooting death

Posted

The Lexington Police Dapartment has released details on the December shooting death of a Lexington man.

On Dec. 20, 2019, officers with the Lexington Police Department were dispatched to a shooting that had occurred during a Christmas party at Southern Dreams Realty, at 102 Gantt Street in Lexington.

In the weeks following the shooting, Lexington PD determined:

• During the party, Wesley Warren-Camp and his father William Douglas Camp Jr. became involved in a physical fight. Glenn Rowe Jr. and others at the party separated them.

• Another attendee, Calvin Lee Brown, retrieved a handgun from his vehicle and fired several rounds into the air in an attempt to disperce the crowd. Brown then left the scene.

• After helping to separate the fight, Rowe and his wife attempted to leave the party. As they were getting into their vehicle, Warren-Camp and Camp Jr. physically assaulted Rowe and pulled him from his vehicle.

• In self defense, Rowe retrieved a handgun from his vehicle and shot Warren-Camp in the upper body.

Rowe suffered a broken orbital socket along with lacerations to the face and head with contusions over much of his body.

Warren-Camp, 26, was declared dead of a gunshot wound to the chest.

The 11th Circuit Solicitor’s Office determined Rowe acted lawfully in self-defense, and no charges will be filed.

Brown was charged with driving under the influence, unlawful use of a firearm and discharging a firearm in town limits.

Camp Jr., has been charged with assault & battery, 2nd degree.
