Senior Center plans September opening

Posted

Since March our Gilbert-Summit Senior Center has been closed due to the corona virus. Director Donna Neel told us they hope to open the center after Labor Day.

She said they keep in touch if members need anything. Meals on Wheels for homebound seniors have been delivered daily.

She said the center has been cleaned to be ready for members when they reopen.

I miss going to the center to get news for our column and I have to say they have the best coffee. Membership is open to seniors 60 and up. For details call 803-892-5745.

COTTON BRANCH Farm Sanctuary now has several virtual volunteer opportunities. Until the virus declines, they will conduct free online sessions for volunteers. This will show opportunities available and what’s needed for the animals’ safety.

Last weekend the farm had their monthly volunteer workday. Registered volunteers spent a half day and helped clean the farm.

They need a virtual adoptive parent for William, a feral pig who was rescued when he was a week old. Since he is feral he could only go to a sanctuary. He is thriving, super sweet and curious. To become William’s virtual adoptive parent go to cottonbranch. org/monthly-partner.html and select “William.”

For their fundraisers, check their Facebook page “Cotton Branch Farm Sanctuary.”

Cotton Branch is a non-profit that rescues abused and abandoned farm animals.

FIRST BAPTIST Church has had to cancel its annual Gilbert Teachers Luncheon. It hopes to hold it next year for all teachers, school bus drivers and staff.
