LEXINGTON COUNTY LIGHTS

Lights Before Christmas

Holidays and animals and lights, oh my! Riverbanks Zoo & Garden (500 Wildlife Pkwy.) holds its annual Lights Before Christmas event on select nights in November and December starting Nov. 20. Hours are 5 to 9 p.m. each night. This month’s other dates are Nov. 21, 24, 26, 27 and 28. The festivities include Santa’s Village, an animated LED story tree, the Candy Cane Carousel, the North Pole Express and snacks such as s’mores. Admission is $12 for adults and $10 for children. There are additional fees for some activities. Find out more at riverbanks.org.

Holiday Lights on the River

One of the area’s popular parks will again transform at night with what it says are “millions of sparkling lights.” Holiday Lights on the River at Saluda Shoals Park (6071 St. Andrews Rd.) says it’s “the Midlands’ largest drive-through light show,” and it returns Nov. 25 through Dec. 31, going from 6 to 10 p.m. nightly. In addition to the more than three miles of animated light displays, there will be a “winter wonder tube slide,” a hayride and train that go through the lights, a laser light show on the Wetland Trail and holiday movie screenings. No activities Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve or Christmas night. Santa’s Claus’et Gift Shop (get it?) will offer holiday shopping. Concessions, beer and wine will be available for purchase. Admission for cars is $25. Find more info at icrc.net.

THURSDAY — NOV. 18

Third Thursday Farmers Market

The Farm 1780 (1127 Corley Mill Rd.) continues its monthly markets with extended hours to get you ready for Thanksgiving. Fresh produce, farm-fresh eggs and merchandise will be available. Guy Lipscomb will perform live music. Caterer Scott Hall (of Bone-In Barbeque fame) will serve food. Beer, wine and “fun Thanksgiving cocktails” will be available. And author Tiffiny Mariano will do a reading from her children’s book “Green Beans & Tangerines.” The free event goes from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

FRIDAY — NOV. 19

Hollow Creek Distillery Free Tastings

Get free tastings at Hollow Creek (112 Rocky Ridge Rd. in Leesville). “If you’re looking for local moonshine straight out of the good ‘ol days when life was a little slower, come and find the red barn and visit us to take a tour, taste a sample or buy a bottle,” reads the event description. They had us at “local moonshine.” The event goes from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Register via Eventbrite.com. Find out more about the distillery at hollowcreekdistillery.com.

Coddle Creek (concert)

Coddle Creek plays the kind of bluegrass that manages to sound rough and tumble even as the players pick with precision. A big part of this is the laid-back singing, which finds the sweet spot between hollering and harmonizing. The band plays the Icehouse Amphitheater (107 W Main St.). There will be beer, wine and soft drinks available to purchase, and food vendors will be on site. Move info is available at icehouseapmhitheater.com.

Kenny George Band (concert)

The Kenny George Band brings a pretty broad appeal to its bar and brewery gigs, plowing through covers and originals that unite outlaw country abandon, impressive rock chops and an appealingly clean and resonant sound. Should sound just right out in the beer garden at Steel Hands from 6 to 10 p.m. The concert is free. Find out more at facebook.com/steelhandsbrewing.

SATURDAY — NOV. 20

Another market at Horse Sense Tack and Feed (1407 S Lake Dr.) bids people to come for a “bountiful good time” at the first of two holiday markets the businesses will hold this year.
