Friday — July 8

Sunset on the Shoals

Head over to Saluda Shoals Park (5605 Bush River Rd. in Columbia) for the Sunset on the Shoals event. Enjoy a one-hour paddle on the Saluda River followed by a wine tasting at the overlook. All participants will receive a complimentary Saluda Shoals Park glass to take home, and light refreshments will be served. The paddle starts at 6 p.m. at the upper boat ramp, and boats and all necessary equipment are provided. This event is for ages 21 and up. Introduce Myself to Me: A Live Music Production by Joshua Frierson (concert)

Enjoy an evening of songs and stories with Joshua Frierson at the Harbison Theatre at Midlands Tech (7300 College St. in Irmo). Savannah River Bluegrass Band (concert)

Bill’s Music Shop & Pickin’ Parlor (720 Meeting St.) hosts the Savannah River Bluegrass Band from 8-9pm. The bluegrass band’s performance is followed by an open jam from 9 a.m. to midnight. The Market at Icehouse

The Town Of Lexington hosts its Farmer’s Market at the Icehouse Amphitheater (107 W Main St.). The market is primarily intended as a farmer/grower and local artisan market that encourages local production. It runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is free to attend. Meeting Street Artisan Market

Head over to the Interactive Art Park (425 Meeting St. in West Columbia) for the Meeting Street Artisan Market. The market includes vendors selling original art, crafts, foods, and produce. Support local vendors, interact with the unique sculptures throughout the park, and then head to State and Meeting streets and Court Avenue to continue shopping and dining. Mark Webb Jr. (concert)

Letron Brantley & Friends (concert)

Join Chayz Lounge (607 Meeting St. in West Columbia) as they host saxophonist Letron Brantley, vocalist Tracy Braithwaite and band for an evening of music called “The Soul Jazz Experience.” Expect to hear classics by Natalie Cole, Etta James, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin and many more. Bombshell Stripped (concert)

Savage Craft Ale Works (430 Center St.) hosts Bombshell Stripped, a professional, energetic an fun-loving acoustic duo that covers pop, rock, soul, dance, country, beach, folk and big band hits. Tuesday July 12

Hollow Creek Spirits Dinner

Chapin Chophouse  (301 Columbia Ave.) partners with Batesburg-Leesville’s award-winning Hollow Creek Distillery pairing five of the distillery’s spirits (Low Country Vodka, 34.08 Whiskey, High Cotton Straight Bourbon, William Alan Small Batch Bourbon, White Hot Cinnamon Whiskey) with a four-course dinner planned by the restaurant’s executive chef, Christopher Holmes. Wednesday July 13

Purple Martin Tour

Join Zach Steinhauser or Rick Crout, Wingard’s naturalists/U.S. Coast Guard captains, for a pontoon tour of the largest purple martin roost in North America on Lake Murray. During summer evenings, hundreds of thousands of purple martins travel to the 12-acre Bomb Island to roost. The tour begins at 6:30 p.m and tickets are $50. Vince Gill (concert)

Platinum-selling country singer and guitarist Vince Gill plays Township Auditorium (1703 Taylor St. in Columbia) on July 8. Expect to hear hits like “I Still Believe In You,” “Don’t Let Our Love Start Slippin’ Away,” “Go Rest High On That Mountain” and many more. “First Date” (play)

The Trustus Theatre (520 Lady St. in Columbia) continues its production of “First Date” through July 16. The play tells the story of Aaron and Casey, two single New Yorkers on a blind date with nothing to lose, except maybe their patience and sanity. “This hilariously relatable musical puts you right at the bar along with them — and all the persistent voices in their heads,” the company describes. “While they fight the urge to call it a no-go, they suffer through every dating faux pas in the book, from awkward silences to rambling about their exes to panicking over their past. Koala Bottle 5K & Half Marathon

Janet Planet Astronaut Academy

The Newberry Opera House (1201 McKibben St.) hosts a weeklong Janet Planet Astronaut Academy starting July 11. The camp promises to create  “out of this world engagement with Janet and her team of educators and experts. ... Students will have a daily curriculum focusing on the NASA Artemis Mission, climate changes, Mars, aviation, and at the end of the week have their very own Launch Day.” The camp starts at 9 a.m. and is $225 to attend.
