Gilbert High School celebrated faculty and staff who served in the military on Veterans Day. A special video was created with the branch of service, picture and name of each Veteran. Thank you to these Gilbert High veterans for your service to our country: Sarah Hudson, U.S. Air Force; Cy Grant, U.S. Army, Robbie Baston; U.S. Marine Corps; Wendy Griffin, U.S. Army; Chris Shealy, U.S. Army National Guard; Michael Maduzia, U.S. Army; and Mickey Stalvey, U.S. Marine Corps.

Karen Benton was selected as the 2021-2022 Support Staff of the Year at Gilbert High School. The other finalists were Greg Blackmon and Lisa Riley.

Hollow Creek Community Club members have elected their 2022 officers and board members. The new officers are Timmy Koon, president; Jimmy Lucas, vice president; Dale Swygert, treasurer; and Mary Ann Sease, secretary. The 2022-2024 Trustees are Jimmy Smith, Monroe Fulmer and O’Neal Sessions. Club members updated their list of homebound seniors and others who are in need in the community. Each year, members make fruit baskets and Poinsettia plants to deliver in December. Outgoing 2021 officers and board members served a Thanksgiving meal to members. Members Charlotte Swygert, Bryn Sarvis and Lila Koon were recognized for November birthdays. The Hollow Creek Community Club is involved in community service and fundraisers throughout the year. For more information call Dale Swygert at 803-917-0195.

On Nov. 14, BSA Troop 60 of Gilbert held an American flag retirement ceremony at their Scout Hut. Many people in the community brought their worn and damaged flags to be retired. Scouts and their families enjoyed a potluck Thanksgiving meal. Pack 60 Scouts are collecting new and gently used clothing for children in the community for Christmas. If you have items to donate, call 803-608-3601.
