Victor Carroll Barwick

Victor Barwick, age 84, of Lexington, South Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 28,
2024 at home after a long illness. He was born on June 25, 1940, and was the son of Carlos M. Barwick and Violet Brunson Barwick.

Victor graduated from Edmonds High School in Sumter, S.C., and went on to graduate from the University of South Carolina with a degree in business. He worked in international industrial sales after working for Union Oil Company and American Optical Company. He was with the U.S. Census Bureau for 24 years, retiring in March of 2024. He was also a photographer for the S.C. Air National Guard for six years.

He married Brenda Ann Gates in June of 1964, celebrating 60 years of marriage on June 13, 2024.

Victor was predeceased by his parents, as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins. He is survived by his son, Rhett Gates Barwick (Tonya Bradley); beloved grandchildren, Casey Nix and Carlisle Murdaugh Barwick (Hannah); great-grandson, Bryson Lee Henry; brothers, Bruce Barwick (Brenda) of Sumter, S.C., and Robert Barwick (Jane Dubose) of Wateree, S.C.; several nephews and cousins of Sumter, S.C.; and brother-in-law, Bill Gates, and his children.

Victor was most generous and devoted to his family. He was known as “Doo Daddy” to his grandchildren. He was a member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church since the 1980’s. Victor loved traveling and enjoyed many trips to Europe with special friends. He was a fantastic cook and enjoyed every meal. He loved his home and doting on his wife, Brenda. His beloved son and grandchildren were the absolute joys of his life. He put the “do” in “Doo Daddy.”

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2024, at St. Stephens Lutheran Church, 119 North Church St., Lexington, S.C. 29072 with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall.
