A huge thanks to the Pelion Ruritan and American Legion Post 101 for their hard work to clear tree branches from the fence at the Oaklawn Cemetery. 24 people with clippers, pruners, trash bags and chain saws came out. 4 trucks and 3 trailers made numerous trips to the burn area. Participating in the cleanup were John, Faith, and Abby Rebolji, Janet Miklosly, Trudy and Steve Neese, Steve Acuff, Faye Lee, Pastor Jerry Branham, Frank Shumpert, David Williams, Alice Mascio, Kay Collings, Lorraine Hayes, Angie Olawsky, Sam and Beverly Jackson, Jean Haggard, Carolyn and Tony Davis, Joshua Montgomery, District 20 Commander David Mills, Post 101 Commander Mark Bays, and Pelion Sons of American Legion Squadron Commander Gabriel Mills.

The cemetery looks much better with all the tree limbs and vines removed.

THE PELION Library staff is preparing garden beds for fall planting. If you are interested in adopting part of the beds, please call the library at 803-785-3272. Adopting a bed means that you plant, water, weed and harvest your vegetables. Parents, children and senior citizens are invited to participate.

PELION Panthers JV/V volleyball will play at Wade Hampton Oct. 1 at 5 pm. Varsity football will play at Silver Bluff Oct. 2 at 7:30. Girls golf plays at Hidden Valley Golf course vs Fox Creek and White Knoll Oct. 6 at 4:30. Girls Tennis plays White Knoll at 4:30. The same day, JV/V volleyball plays Barnwell at 5 pm.

LEXINGTON COUNTY will hold a Recycling drop-off Oct. 3 at Irmo High 8 to noon. All residents are asked to wear masks and stay in their vehicles while employees and volunteers unload materials at each station. Information can be found on lex-co.sc.gov/departments/solid-waste-management.
