Wanted: More vets

A task force is recruiting more military veterans to move or retire here.

“We worked with legislators to pass retirement pay tax exemptions,” said SC Military Base Task Force Chairman Bill Bethea.

“Veterans offer our state’s employers precisely the workforce they need. 29 states offer a full state income tax exemption for retired military pay.”

Because career military veterans can retire after 20 years in their 40s, they offer skills and 20 or more years of service to businesses, distributors and manufacturers.

“We want to identify all veterans and provide them services,” he said. “This includes monitoring unscrupulous veterans organizations.

“We support military children and families with education and child care improvements. We work with each host community to support public-private partnerships to reduce base costs and improve facilities, increase energy resiliency, and improve security.”
