West Columbia plans interactive park and parking project

Posted

West Columbia is planning an interactive park that will feature special art attractions.

The city is billing the park as one of a kind and it includes parking along with the art. It will be on Meeting Street, near the intersection of State Street, where the city owns space for parking.

The park will have music and art displays for people of all ages to enjoy. The park will also have areas for artists booths and a farmer’s market, with additional parking. The project is intended to provide intrinsic environmental, aesthetic, and recreation benefits to West Columbia.

Tara Greenwood, West Columbia’s Director of Grants and Special Projects spoke about the new park at the July 10, West Columbia City Council meeting.

West Columbia’s goal is to have the park and parking area open by the end of the year with all art pieces installed by Spring. The city will request proposals from qualified artists to provide the interactive art pieces. Interested artists can go to http://westcolumbiasc.govfor more details.

The rendering below shows the park’s vendor areas, art locations, parking, landscaping, and the ADA pathway.

To assist in the funding of the park, the city received a Municipal Association of S.C. Hometown Economic Development Grant.
