The 20th annual Coastal Plain League All-Star Show provided two days of entertainment and exposure for Lexington County.

From the mini-Home Run Derby to the All-Star Game itself, Lexington County Baseball Stadium provided a venue to showcase both the community and the Coastal Plain League.

It also allowed local fans to see one of its own shine most among the 55 other All-Stars in attendance at Lexington County Baseball Stadium.

Lexington County Blowfish utility player Connor Tate belted two, 2-run doubles to lead the host team National All-Stars to a 9-4 victory over the American All-Stars.

The University of Georgia sophomore became the Blowfish’s first-ever All-Star game honoree. He was presented the Batter of the Game award in leading an offense that pounded out 16 hits.

“It’s an honor to be here,” Tate said. “It’s in town, so I tried to represent the Blowfish. Having a first-ever All-Star Game award winner capped an exciting, satisfying weekend for Blowfish co-owner Bill Shanahan.

“It’s been a wonderful, magical time in Lexington County having all of these collegiate Boys of Summer,” he said. “The All-Stars from four states, 16 cities in the Coastal Plain League right here in Lexington County. This is Lexington County’s hometown stadium.”

Opening night featured a mini-Home Run Derby won by the Lexington County Youth All-Stars over local media. The National All-Stars proceeded to defeat the American All-Stars 26-15 in the skills competition.

Following a boat trip on Lake Murray, the All-Star players returned to take part in a 3-hour evaluation program coordinated by both Major League Baseball and USA Baseball.

The Prospect Development Pipeline program helps establish an official identification and player development pathway for amateur baseball players in the United States.

Before the All-Star Game, the All-Stars played a 2-inning exhibition contest against the Screaming Eagles Special Needs Athletics team.
