You may have noticed we removed our newspaper box from in front of the Lexington County Courthouse.
Last week Judge Griffith ordered the box be removed to prevent potential jurors from seeing our reporting on the Timothy Jones murder trial.
The defense raised objection to the box being within sight of the potential jurors entering the courthouse.
We removed the box within an hour of receiving the order.
During “qualifications” of potential jurors, Circuit Court Judge Eugene C. Griffith, Jr. asks them if pre-trial publicity has caused them to form an opinion of guilt or innocence in the case.
“There’s been alot of publicity out there from all sort of places,” the judge told one potential juror Thursday. “They’re just doing their jobs.”
Defense also requested a change in trial venue. Judge Griffith denied the request.
