Who said chemistry can’t be fun?

Caughman-Harman Funeral Home opened their doors July 18 for a slime-making event.

Summer Schmidt of Caughman-Harman said they wanted to do something fun for the community. “Not everyone can afford to go to camp during the summer,” she explained.

Caughman-Harman wanted to give back to local kids with a free activity kids and parents could enjoy.

10-year-old Blith Sanders said she has a designated slime making table at home. She makes batches of slime to share with her friends.

She explained that Elmer’s glue tends to be the best consistency for slime-making.

The recipes for DIY activator are simple. She has made activator using contact solution and baking soda or borax and water. They all worked well.

8-year-old Hannah Hicks said she preferred making her own activator with contact solution and baking soda. She said the boric acid in the contact solution is what makes it useful as a slime activator.

5-year-old Braxton Dillon was eager to try it out. He discovered he didn’t like the messy slime-making process but did enjoy decorating slime.

Hannah helped make some he later decorated with glitter, rhinestones, and foam beads.

Try these simple slime recipes:

• 1 small bottle Elmer’s glue

• 3 teaspoons Elmer’s “Magical Liquid” activator

OR

• 1 large bottle Elmer’s glue

• 2 ozs Elmer’s “Magical Liquid” activator
