Safety belt enforcements to increase

Posted

The Lexington Police Department will be participating in the 2020 Memorial Day Buckle Up South Carolina campaign.

Officers will be conducting safety belt enforcement activities statewide through the Memorial Day holiday.

The Buckle Up South Carolina campaign will end Sunday, May 31.

Traffic Division and Patrol Division officers will be focused on safety belt enforcement. Officers will be working together on several saturation events specifically looking for violations of South Carolina’s primary safety belt law.

The Buckle Up South Carolina mobilization falls under the South Carolina Department of Public Safety initiative in an effort to end all highway fatalities. This campaign combines highvisibility enforcement with heightened public awareness through advertising and publicity.

The “100 Deadly Days of Summer” fall between the Memorial Day and Labor Day holidays. Anyone riding within a motor vehicle are asked to always use their safety belt to greatly decrease their chance of injury or death in the event of a collision.
