Some might think of the flute as an instrument for stuffy classical recitals, or for merry Renaissance Fairs. It’s a more versatile instrument than those kinds of events would indicate, and no one proves that better than Birmingham, Alabama flautist Kim Scott.

Scott has spent much of her life playing smooth jazz and R&B on her flute, and it has paid off in spades.

Starting with her 2011 debut album, "Crossing Over," and breaking through with her #1 Billboard charting 2022 album, "SHINE." Kim Scott has impressed audiences across the globe in performances and on the airwaves. Known for her exceptional tone, intoxicating melodies and flawless technique, she is one of the most sought-after flutists in the jazz field.

That’s the sound and pedigree that Kim Scott brings to Chayz Lounge on Meeting Street this Friday night in a show called, “A Night of Jazzy Grooves." In addition to performing her own smooth jazz hits from her five studio albums, songs like “Back Together Again,” “It’s Your Time” and “Sweet Obsession,” Scott will explore the catalogs of other artists with covers of “I’m Every Woman,” “People Make The World Go ‘Round,” “Fantastic Voyage” and many more.

The contemporary jazz superstar has an ever-growing fan base garnered from her continued presence on the performance scene and from her visibility as radio host of the nationally syndicated, two-hour jazz program, “Kim Scott’s Block Party Radio,” which airs weekly across the world.
