A busy month for Gaston police

The Quail attended the monthly Town of Gaston meeting July 6 where Councilman Mike Cook gave an update on the renovations to the town auditorium.

“Everything should be ready for the next pageant,” he reported.

These renovations include a full makeover of the interior including new chairs.

A MONTHLY report from Police Chief Stephen Watkins included over 350 calls for service, 10 wanted persons arrested. 7 firearms recovered that were stolen or unlawfully carried.and a U-Haul stolen in Alabama was recovered.

Several drug cases were made including trafficking methamphetamine. 23.22 grams were seized with 30 Scheduled II narcotics (oxcycodone) and over 50 grams of marijuana.

A traffic stop caught 2 wanted persons and a handgun used in an armed robbery in Orangeburg County.

An escaped DJJ juvenile was taken into custody and transported to the facility.

Gaston Police assisted with copper thefts. With sheriff’s deputies, cameras caught 3 suspects cutting copper from trains. Estimated recovered copper was $136,000.

All 3 suspects were apprehended and taken into custody.
