A day of rest, part 2

Last week I wrote of the daily physical rest we need. What about the rest needed for your soul?

Jesus said, “Take my yoke upon you and learn of me, and you will find rest for your soul.”

A yoke is a farming device that joins two animals together side-by-side so that the farmer gets twice the power for plowing or hauling under his control.

For the animals, wearing a yoke only meant one thing: hard labor. But Jesus said if you are yoked or bound together with Him, that yoke would be easy and the burden light.

It may be like the adage, “If you make a career out of something you love, you’ll never work a day in your life!”

Labors of love can seem easy even though they may result in sweat.

Finding spiritual rest means living with a clean conscience, having your sins forgiven, and that means less stress and more energy for living.

There is another kind of rest that God intends for us – the rest that He Himself demonstrated at creation.

In 6 days God worked and on the 7th he rested.

Did God need to rest? No, but He chose to rest. And for our good He gave us the 4th commandment, “Remember the Sabbath Day to keep it Holy.”

Leviticus 23:3 says, “There are 6 days when you may work, but the 7th is a day of sabbath rest. a day of sacred assembly. You are not to do any work; wherever you live, it is a sabbath to the LORD.”

God gave us the gift of setting aside a full day every week for a rest that will result in physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual benefits. If you accept this gift you will never regret it!
