A new use for old newspapers

Posted

People have joked for years about old newspapers.

They said they were good to line canary cages and train puppies.

Kim Apgar has a better idea.

You might call it a skill or talent.

She makes baskets and other objects from copies of The Fish Wrapper.

After moving to South Carolina, Kim found a job at Country Suites Inn at Harbison where I deliver The Fish Wrapper.

Soon she started reading the free weekly paper.

Kim loves to make crafts.

She knew she could put left-over papers to good use.

She asked if she could keep any left from the week prior. Not many were ever left, but any returns I had I would give to her.

The other week the office manager said she had a surprise for me.

Kim surprised me with a handmade Fish Wrapper bowl.

Kim told me she loved to make bowls, cups and trays from the papers as it gave her something to do.

“I love to give the items I make as a gift.”
