Airport High receives top honors

Posted

The South Carolina Association of Student Councils recognized Airport High School at its 71st annual state convention Mar. 29-31. AHS received Gold Council of the Year, the highest recognition at the state level and Airport’s 3rd year at that status. Airport also received:

• First place: 4A/5A Fundraising Award for Airport’s Camp Kemo Charity Drive. This year’s drive, in its 25th year, raised nearly $55,000.

• First place: 4A/5A Community Service Award for the school’s Reading Buddies program. Airport teacher and Student Council adviser Daniel Bailey said the service recognition is especially meaningful. “Awards like these confirm that we are headed in the right direction here at Airport,” Bailey said. “These students are learning the power of service before self, and that part of becoming a productive citizen is learning to serve and help others.” Among individual honors, Katie Kyzer was selected as a Terry McCoy Hall of Fame inductee, while Trace Wingard was recognized for his service to the South Carolina Association of Student Councils for serving as District Chairman this past year.
