Alvin David “Al” Ryland

Seneca — Alvin David “Al” Ryland, 92, passed away on March 28, 2023, at Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca, South Carolina. Born March 15, 1931, he was the loving husband of 57 years to the late Mrs. Shirley Moore of Laurens, South Carolina, and the son of the late Calvin David Ryland and Ethel Irene Long Ryland of Monroeville, Alabama.

Upon graduating from high school in Monroe County, Alabama, Alvin enlisted in the United States Air Force and retired after 21 years at the rank of Technical Sergeant. During his service, he was also awarded the Joint Service Commendation Medal. After being honorably discharged from the Air Force, he worked for the South Carolina Highway Department as a Right of Way Director for 21 years and continued to work in the right of way acquisition field until finally retiring at 80 years old.

Mr. Ryland is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Ryland of Seneca, South Carolina; brothers-in-law: Gene (Ann) Moore of Greenville, South Carolina, \and Gary Moore of Cairo, Georgia; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his wife and parents, Alvin is predeceased by sisters Lucille Presley and Mildred McDonald; half-sisters Catherine Salter and Alvie Lee Ivey; brothers Clinton Ryland and Newton Ryland; half-brothers Calvin Ryland, James G Ryland and William H. Long.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
