Animal Services encourages adoption, low-cost vet care

Posted

Lexington County Animal Services has a few programs in place to encourage adoption and limit euthanization.

“Our shelter is very full,” reads a post on the organization’s Facebook page, “and we have many dogs that have been waiting for a spot in adoptions, but the wait is taking a while and they desperately need a home and some are even facing the possibility of euthanization.”

There will be a Fourth of July adoption event from Monday, July 1 to Saturday, July 6 where adoption fees will be reduced to $10. The fee is usually $40.

Additionally, any animal who has been up for adoption for over 30 days will have no fee. There is a limit of two per household.

And on June 28 from 10 a.m. to noon, there will be a PETSinc Affordable Mobile Veterinary Unit. There is no appointment needed and it’s open to everyone.

There are plenty of basic treatments offered, and for reference, the most expensive treatment, according to the flier, is a heartworm test for $35.

Lexington County Animal Services is located at 321 Ball Park Rd. in Lexington and is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays. They are closed on Sundays.
