South Carolina has named its next men’s golf coach. Former Purdue coach Rob Bradley is set to take over the program after it was announced Bill McDonald would not return.

Bradley was the coach at Purdue from 2013-24 and led the Boilermakers to nine NCAA Regionals and four NCAA Championship appearances. In 2024, the team finished third place at the Big Ten Championship and advanced to the NCAA championship round.

“It is very exciting to be the next men’s golf coach at South Carolina,” Bradley said. “The SEC is a golf powerhouse and I’m looking forward to competing against the best teams in college golf. South Carolina is synonymous with the game of golf, and it’s important for me to build strong relationships across the state.”

Bradley is a former player from the University of North Carolina and a two-time U.S. Open participant in 1997 and 2003. He spent seven seasons as a regular member of the PGA’s development tour, which is now known as the Korn Ferry Tour.

“After visiting with Rob Bradley, it became clear that he has the passion, vision and positive outlook to lead our men’s golf program,” South Carolina athletics director Ray Tanner said. “His success as someone who can build a program and develop young men is well-documented.  I am excited about the future of our men’s golf program under Rob’s direction.”

The season before Bradley was named head coach at Purdue, he was an assistant on the 2013 Alabama team that won both the SEC and National Championships under former Gamecock player Jay Seawell.

South Carolina replaced its all-time winningest coach, Bill McDonald. He took the team to 15 NCAA tournaments and seven championship rounds. But in 2024, the team struggled, finishing 12th in the SEC and eighth in the NCAA Baton Rouge regional.

McDonald’s goal is to get the program to new heights.

“Player development and course management are important teaching elements for me and our goal will be to compete at the highest level year in and year out here,” he said.
