The South Carolina Ag + Art Tour comes to Lexington County

According to its website, “The SC Ag+art Tour is a free, self-guided tour of farms and markets that feature local artisans at every stop. During the tour, visitors can see first-hand where their food comes from, watch artist in action and purchase their works, enjoy the melodies of local bands and learn more about rural life. The tour is the largest free farm and art tour in the nation with over 85,000 visitors participating since 2012.”

UTOPIA FARM LLC

Utopia Farm, LLC is family owned and operated full-time farm on 54 acres. Owners Ray and Pat Hall enjoy growing vegetable gardens. They also breed and raise Boar goats, and some Angus Cows. They have chickens, ducks, horses, donkeys and two campsites on the farm. A two-mile trail for walking and hiking is available around the farm for campers. They are located 30 miles west of Columbia. There were several vendors who sold their homemade jams, jelly, honey, crafts and art at the farm. Cold lemonade was available to visitors to help quench their thirst. Visitors could walk certain areas of the farm and take pictures of their livestock. The farm is located at 1108 Union Church Rd., Leesville, S.C. 29070.

Hollow Creek Distillery

Located at 112 Rocky Ridge Rd. in Leesville, Hollow Creek Distillery was open for the AG+Art Tour. There were a variety of crafters and artists selling at the event. Some of the artists and crafters were in the red barn building where they make their internationally awarded spirits. Others crafters were in the main building. Since there were so many artists in the Red Barn they did not give tours during the event. Their main building was filled with people who were purchasing Hollow Creek Distillery merchandise and their famous spirits. The business was started by two families. They use a recipe that was handed down through their family for generations. They invite you to come in for a tasting and a tour of days gone by. Later in the afternoon they had a band to entertain everyone.

Lexington County Museum

Lexington County Museum collects, preserve and presents the history of Lexington County. They specifically preserve the artifacts and structures made and used in the area before 1865. The museum’s director is J. R Fennell who leads a team of talented staff and volunteers in curating and interpreting the artifacts at the museum site. During the AG+Art Tour the museum had several people who museum had volunteers. The Lexington Master Gardeners, Lexington Soil and Water Conservation District and Indigo tie dying demonstrations. Visitors were allowed to walk the grounds of the museum and see how the buildings were and life was like in the 1800’s. The museum is located at 231 Fox St. in Lexington.
