Cancer is a scary and deadly disease. I have seen family members and friends going through treatment.
It is challenging and rigorous.
I had a cancer scare myself.
Luckily, it turned out to be a Fibroadenoma, a non-cancerous breast tumor.
It has been marked with a metal clip, and we’re keeping a close eye on it.
The US Preventative Services Task Force is a government panel of experts that aids in prevention and medicine for women carrying possible genetic cancer genes.
Women who have had breast, ovarian, fallopian-tube or adominal cancer should get assessed for gene mutations of the BRCA1 and BRCA2.
These are the genes responsible for repairing damaged DNA, which lessens the chances for certain cancers to develop.
In some cases, these genes can undergo a rare mutation which could lead to breast, ovarian or other cancers.
If you are not at risk and have no family history of cancer, it is highly recommended not to undergo testing.
