Beekeeping is a sweet job

Oh, honey! I spent a part of one day playing with honey and hungry honeybees! My sisters are 4th generation beekeepers. I got to participate in “robbing the bees” by doing my favorite task of “slinging” the honey out of the sweet frames the old fashioned way with my granddad’s hand powered centrifugal force extractor.

I had to smile. I remember going to their house and seeing family members taking turns spinning the old honey extractor. I think grandma was smiling from heaven!

If you are interested in beekeeping, the Midstate Beekeepers Association meets at 6505 St. Andrews Rd., August 7, 7-9 pm.

Many congratulations are in order this week.  Brave young men grow up into great men! Colton Bower, JT Goodson, Carter Goodson, and Ethan Hutchinson noticed a young mother in need of medical attention in their neighborhood. They immediately went into action, comforted her and called the police and stayed by her side until help arrived. The Town of Chapin recognized these young men July 2 for their heroic actions.

Congratulations to Lilly Richter for being crowned the 2019 Miss Teen North America. Lily represented South Carolina and is a graduate of Irmo High School.

Ella Bishop, a Chapin High student, won first place at the HOSA-Future Health Professionals national competition in Health Care Photography.
