Blowfish collecting bats for Belize

For 90 little leaguers in the Toledo District of Belize, that’s difficult.

The young players gather each Saturday morning at the soccer field in Jacintoville, Belize, to play baseball bare handed.

They have a coach and a place to play but only two gloves, two bats, a ball and a batter’s helmet.

Gloves and catchers masks are badly needed, but any equipment is better than what they have.

There are no organized Little League teams in Belize.

They hope Lexington County Blowfish fans will help them. Between now and the last game Saturday, the Blowfish are collecting bats and balls for Belize.

Blowfish fans can bring any little league baseball equipment to a Blowfish game and get in free.

That’s the invitation of Blowfish owners Bill and Vicki Shanahan.

You can support the Lexington County baseball team and help disadvantaged children in a depressed part of the world.

You may even be helping a future Major League star. They accept T-Ball equipment, too.

The little leaguers in Belize wish to thank the Shanahans, Theo Becot, Anna Vergelli and the Blowfish players, coaches and staff.

A Lexington County nonprofit is spearheading the effort. They are looking for other groups to participate.
