Cayce invests $6.3M on Knox Abbott Drive

The City of Cayce is finishing an upgrade of its busiest thoroughfare.

“Approximately 80% of the project is complete,” said Ashley Hunter, City of Cayce spokeswoman.

The plan includes sidewalk and pedestrian safety improvements including traffic signal arms, trees, sod, landscaping and brick plazas at intersections.

In the next 3 to 6 months all pedestrian light poles and light fixtures will be replaced and remaining SCE&G transmission power poles installed.

The total construction cost is $6.3 million.

Hunter also confirmed that a Starbucks is being built on Knox Abbott Drive beside Taco Bell and Captain D’s Seafood.

Construction has disrupted some consumer traffic. The Greater Cayce-West Columbia Chamber of Commerce held a “Knox Abbott Drive Week” to support local businesses.

“We tried to act in a way that would benefit them through this construction,” said Richard Skipper, the Chamber’s executive director.

“Everyone I spoke to during the week was appreciative and most felt like they saw an increase in foot traffic.”

“When finished, Knox Abbott Drive will be a premier gateway and the entire community will benefit,” Skipper said.
