Cayce Public Safety prepares for summer

AROUND CAYCE, SPRINGDALE & WEST COLUMBIA

The Cayce Department of Public Safety would like to remind its residents that we are entering the “100 Deadliest Days of Summer.”

This refers to the days between Memorial Day and Labor Day. This time of the year is peak road-travel season. In the summer, there is an increase in traffic crashes, with speed, DUI and distraction being the three big causes when it comes to crashes.

Due to how dangerous it is, law enforcement is out in full force, working to reduce the number of crashes this year. The Cayce Department of Public Safety is asking drivers to follow the speed limit, don’t text and drive, and always wear your seat belt.

Cayce Public Safety Officer Denver Rogers received the “Outstanding Traffic Safety Officer of the Year” award last week from the American Legion Hut.

Rogers is a DUI Enforcement Officer and works mostly night and weekend hours and has done an excellent job! A grant from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration fully funds the efforts of our traffic team.

Also, the Cayce Department of Public Safety is encouraging its residents to lock their cars since a string of vehicle break-ins occurred in the Cayce Avenues neighborhood. Reports were received that numerous unlocked vehicles were entered early Sunday morning.

If you notice someone suspicious or believe your car has been broken into please contact the Cayce Department of Public Safety at (803)794-0456.
