AROUND LEXINGTON COUNTY

As we celebrate Thanksgiving, we are thankful for many blessings. John F. Kennedy says “as we express our gratitude we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words but to live by them.” And Sam Lefkowitz says “when asked if my cup is half full or half empty, my only response is that I am thankful to have a cup.”

Families and friends gather today to enjoy the traditional meal and share all the news and happenings.

Our Lexington County Museum plans to celebrate the holidays with a Christmas open house December 8, 1-4 pm. This well-attended event is free to the public and all historic structures will be decorated in period fashion. Refreshments of spiced apple cider, gingerbread and German stollen will be served to guests. A cooking demonstration will also take place. As always, seasonal music will be provided by Constance Carractor Flemming.

On February 22, 2020 the museum will hold its annual fundraiser, “Celebrating the 50th birthday of the museum,”Feb. 22, 6-10 pm at the Lexington Municipal Complex. Dan Koon serves as President of the Friends, along with museum director J.R. Fennell.

Mark your calendars and get into the Christmas spirit with their delightful music. Any questions, call Martha Raffaele, cell 610-283-8321 or visit www.lexingtoncommunityband.org .

don’t forget our Lexington County Choral Society Concert, “Sing we now of Christmas”, 7:30 pm, December 6-7, Saxe Gotha Presbyterian Church, Lexington. Hal McIntosh is founder/conductor.

Mission Lexington reminds you of its annual trunk show December 5, 5-7pm, at Lexington’s Old Mill. Entry is a $5 donation or 10 canned goods. This will be a great shopping opportunity with home décor, handbags, decorations, holiday items and more on sale!

Scott Adams reports: CIU School of Business Dean Scott Adams of Lexington was invited to speak at the Conservative Union’s CPAC Conference in Philadelphia last week. Scott’s presentation was on a new CIU initiative called “Business Beyond Bars,” which focuses on providing entrepreneurial training to prisoners so that they can use vocational skills, including those obtained in prison, to start and operate their own businesses upon release.

Anne Bull reports that former SC Governor and UN Ambassador Nikki Haley discussed her new memoir “With All Due Respect: defending America with grit and grace,” at the Charleston Gaillard Center, November 17.  NBC anchor and SC native Craig Melvin moderated the event. She discussed her many experiences in public life. The most life-changing one was dealing with the shooting at Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston. The faith and forgiveness shown by members and parishioners sent a message to the world.
