The Chapin United Methodist Church mission group arrived home July 9.

Family, friends and church members greeted the mission team, who had been stranded in Haiti due to riots over the 40% increase in fuel prices.

“We were safe. There was no danger for us. My main goal was just to disseminate information to my students and my team as needed and to keep their spirits up,” said Emily Wheaton.

Annelise Hawkinson, one of the teens, said, “I’ve been coming since I was 11. This is my second home. I will 100% be there next summer.”

The 13 member team went for a week mission trip, but due to riots, they endured 3 extra days in the Mission of Hope Compound, with food, water, and armed guards to protect them.
